Adventures in Indonesia
| Indonesia suffers from a bad reputation. The
Bali bombing have reinforced its image as a haven for Islamic
fundamentalists. Fewer and fewer travelers are venturing to this
archipelago, which in the past was synonymous with paradise. The Truth is
that the Indonesian people are still just about the friendliest in the
world. The beautiful beaches, mountains and rainforests, which span over
12.000 islands, are still inhabited by hundreds of different indigenous
communities, each fighting to preserve its own traditions. Cultural
diversity might well be Indonesia's richest asset. Indonesia is still Asia’s
final Frontier; a land of adventure and cultural discoveries that does not
leave any visitor untouched. We start off our coverage of Indonesia with one
of its most unique Indigenous groups, The Mentawai. Little by little, we
will add other destinations to this page, but don't wait to visit this
country. Most visitors still regard it as the only place to travel. |

Places of Interest:
Among the special places I visited, I include here the following:
Siberut, Lake Maninjau, Irian-Jaya and the Malukos. Bali is beautiful
but heavily touristed. There are thousands of places just as beautiful
as Bali, hundreds of cultures just as interesting as the Balinese, and
many places with friendlier people. They just haven't been in the news
yet! |
