Adventures in Guatemala
| The colonial charm of Antigua is well-known
to travelers, yet the true beauty of the country lies tucked away in the
highlands. The Mayan communities have retained their traditions, languages,
and culture. The vivid panoply of colors and designs in their clothing will
leave you in awe. Our documentaries, photos, and travel tips are all you
need to discover Guatemala by yourself. |

From Tikal to the Altiplano:
Ancient and Modern Mayan Cultures in Guatemala
Guatemala has the richest ethnic diversity
of all the countries of Central America. Eighty percent of the population is
indigenous. Most groups are descendants of the Mayans and have preserved
their traditional clothing, folklore and language. Mayan archeological sites
are abundant. Some, like Tikal, are world famous, others still lay hidden in
dense jungles waiting for explorers to discover their secrets.
Tikal, the Ancient Mayan City of Guatemala
Recent
History
Guatemala is a colorful country
with friendly people, but the horrific civil war has left many scars.
Tourists might be unaware as they stroll through local markets, but
somewhere deep inside the people's hearts, the war remains.
