There are as many different ways to travel
as there are countries in the world. Guidebooks attempt to address the
general needs of a very broad spectrum of travelers. This website is
produced by J-Philippe Soule and sponsored by
Native Planet, an NGO for the preservation of indigenous cultures, for the
purpose of promoting cultural eco-tourism.
Ecotourism is a new pioneering kind of
travel designed for 2 purposes:
to minimize the negative impact of tourism on indigenous communities, and to
offer travelers a cheaper more personal and more authentic travel
experience. This is accomplished by cutting out the middle men; namely,
parasitic tour agencies and guides who do not belong to the indigenous
community, respect their customs, nor share any of their profits with them.
Eco-tourism allows travelers to contract
directly with members of the community, allowing the community to receive
guests on their own terms and preserve their culture. We are sensitive to
village politics and to travelers' welfare, thus we only recommend places
which we have visited and/or thoroughly investigated.
You'll also find links to some of our favorite destinations
which, while not indigenous communities, nonetheless offer rich cultural
experiences. Information does occasionally become obsolete so we invite
travelers to help us keep our resources up to date, submit their own
articles for possible publication on our site, or volunteer as content
writers. Feel free to mail us any time. |
