Title:

Red Dao Indigenous People, Ta Phin, Sapa, Vietnam

Caption:

Red Dao women shave their heads and eyebrows and wear bright red turbans; a woman’s wealth is often shown by the amount of silver she wears on her neck and headdress. They are known for their embroidery skills. Red Dao people are part of the larger Dao ethnic minority group also known as Dzao or Zao. This village, Taphin, is one of the numerous ethnic villages found in the Sapa valley of North Vietnam. Typically, the Red Dao are found in the northern Ha Giang and northwestern Cao Bang provinces of North Vietnam where they are grouped with other minority groups in that area and called “hill tribes.”
