Title:
Embera Puru, Darien Rainforest, Panama.
Caption:
Body art is one of the most important and enduring traditions in Embera and Wounan culture. intricate lines are painted on a young Embera girl with indelible black dye made from the jagua
fruit. At the tender age of four and a half the youngest dancer is
already a star. Her mother and aunt thoroughly enjoyed acting as
stylists. It was her inaugural performance and although she knew none of
the steps, she smiled, laughed and followed the rhythm of the music with
a natural aptitude.
