This Embera woman prepares a non-alcoholic version of Chicha de Maiz
as part of a meal for a group of visitors. The beverage, made from corn
and sugar cane juice, is sweet and refreshing. If allowed to ferment for
a few days it becomes a sour but potent tonic.
