Title:
Tai Dam Indigenous People, Muang Sing, Louang Namtha, Laos
Caption:
The Tai Dam migrated from Muang Lai Chau and Muang Dien Bien Phu (Muang Thaeng) in Northern Vietnam to Muang Luang Nam Tha in Laos in 1895 because of tribal warfare. The Tai Dam are different from other Tai groups; they are animists rather than Buddhists and remain uninfluenced by other religions. The Tai Dam (Black Tai), Tai Daeng
(Red Tai) and Tai Kao (White Tai) compose nearly 20% of Laos’
population.
