A layer of white cream-like paint makeup is applied to the skin of
this young bride. It is used a base for a dusting of finer white powder
makeup. All exposed skin, including areas of her neck, chest and upper
back, is painted in white.
Her hair is matted down and enclosed in a tight net in preparation for
the katsura, a large wig worn with traditional kimonos on the wedding
day.
