During low tide, young women walk out onto a rocky outcropping to gather sea water from tide pools. They boil off the water and extract the salt. This old Ngobe tradition dates back generations. The Ngobe are among the poorest indigenous people in Panama and often cannot afford to purchase even the most basic products.
