/ Village: Barjarsar
Ethnic Group: Bhil
Bhil and Bishnoi women from the villages surrounding Barjarsar work on road construction. The government, in an effort to help people fight the severe drought, requires one member of each family to work one day per week. Each worker gets one kilo of wheat and one kilo of rice (a value of 30 cents) for 8 hours of labor under the grueling sun. The road might never be finished. The wage is far lower than that of other jobs, but locals still participate in the program because, as they say "almost nothing is still better than nothing".
