The huipiles of the women of Santa Maria are the pinnacle of weaving technique in Guatemala. They draw from the entire palette of colors and fill the entire surface area of the blouse with representations of flowers, birds and geometric patterns. They finish off their traditional dress with a headpiece made from a long woven sash coiled into a thick rope and tied around the head like a crown.
