Like all Kuna, this woman has worn beaded leg wrappings since the day of her puberty ceremony. They have restricted the muscle development of her legs. It is both a matter of pride and expectation that women wear traditional clothes at all times, even when they leave the islands and enter the metropolis of Panama City.
