Using her daughter as a model an Embera woman demonstrates traditional Jagua body painting. The designs are different for men and women, for each age group and for each occasion. 

To apply the dye, the woman dips a strip of bamboo into a calabasa gourd bowl full of dye. The designs will darken and set for the next two days and last for two weeks, until the outer layers of skin exfoliate.
